Case study - Kerrang Music Magazine

Kerrang is a rock music magazine and is produced by Baurer Consumer Media and is made in the United Kingdom. It is produced on a weekly basis and it sold in most regional newsagents and shops.

The first issue was published in 6th June 1981 and was edited by a person called Geoff Barton. Since then Kerrang! have diversified to radio and also their own music channel.

Emap launched Kerrang! in Australia in the late 1990s. When the Australians published the magazine they had to do it monthly because of the big competition from the free local music publications. Also Kerrang! is published in Spain.

Kerrang!'s rise in circulation came in 2000 when the nu metal genre came about featuring bands like Slipknot, Limp Bizkit, Linkin Park, Staind and Marilyn Manson under editor Paul Rees.

The circulation figures are now dropping due to the fact that people aren't buying magazines anymore and are just reading them online or not at all.
